The Climate emergency Issue
The Climate emergency, and the environment are subjects that we must ALL take responsibility for. They cant be owned , or used by individuals or groups and used as political weapons or tactically when they lose a debate.
Indeed when people or parties try to politicise the climate emergency and the need to reduce carbon etc is the time other people switch off and the whole discussion and impetus is lost.
We all must take responsibility. and we cant allow it to be used as a political weapon.
Since taking over as the administration we have declared both a climate and biodiversity emergency.
Climate is fundamental to everything we do, it is a primary consideration in all reports and decision making, it is part of our Corporate plan.
We have increased the amount of officers directly dealing with CE. Demonstrating the level of priority it is to us.
We are the only Council in the whole of Europe selected for the 500,000 Euro Aurora project.
The Cabinet portfolio holder meets regularly with the Climate Emergency officers.
We have exciting bids in place for further Climate projects that will make a fundamental change to our environment.
The Cabinet portfolio holder is a “Commissioner” along with representatives from three Welsh Councils working to improve the health of the River Wye.
